Welcome to Sanarchive, a free and independent encyclopedia dedicated to art and culture.

Sanarchive is a non-profit, collaborative online encyclopedia focused on art, music, cinema, theatre, visual arts, and cultural history. Its goal is to document artistic production and cultural heritage in a structured, accessible, and enduring form.

Sanarchive is built using the open-source MediaWiki software. With the exception of a limited number of protected pages, anyone with internet access can contribute by creating new articles, improving existing ones, or adding reliable references. Editing is done through the “Edit” or “Edit source” tabs available at the top of each page.

All content on Sanarchive follows encyclopedic standards, including neutral point of view, verifiability, and clarity. Articles are written to provide contextual and historical information rather than personal interpretation or criticism.

Internal links connect articles across artists, movements, works, and concepts, allowing readers to explore cultural topics as part of a wider knowledge network rather than isolated entries.

Unlike printed encyclopedias, Sanarchive is continuously updated. Articles may be expanded, corrected, or refined over time through collective contribution and editorial review. This dynamic structure allows the encyclopedia to grow alongside ongoing research and cultural developments.

Readers are encouraged to consult Sanarchive:What is Sanarchive and Sanarchive:Principles to better understand the project’s scope, editorial standards, and contribution model.

Who writes Sanarchive?

Sanarchive is written and maintained by a global community of volunteers. Contributors include artists, researchers, students, educators, and independent writers with an interest in art, culture, and creative history.

Rather than relying on a fixed editorial staff, Sanarchive is developed collaboratively. Anyone may contribute, provided their edits adhere to the project’s content guidelines and editorial principles.

Most contributors write under usernames or pseudonyms. Articles are not owned by individual editors; instead, they evolve through shared authorship, discussion, and incremental improvement over time.

Sanarchive encourages contributors to:

  • Write in a neutral, encyclopedic tone
  • Base content on reliable and verifiable sources
  • Avoid personal opinions and original research
  • Respect copyright and licensing requirements

Some pages may be temporarily protected to prevent vandalism or to maintain editorial stability. Editorial decisions are made through community discussion rather than centralized authority.

Sanarchive is an independent project and is not affiliated with Wikipedia, the Wikimedia Foundation, or any other external organization. While it uses MediaWiki software and follows a collaborative model, its editorial focus and priorities are defined solely by the Sanarchive community.

Unless otherwise stated, textual content on Sanarchive is published under free licenses. This allows content to be reused, modified, and shared with appropriate attribution, supporting the open dissemination of cultural knowledge.
